College Component - GCCIS

Information Technology

In addition to Institute and College requirements, all IT Honors Students must fulfill the following Department requirements:
  • attendance at the Honors Project Seminar throughout their studies in Information technology
  • completion of an Honors Capstone Project in their final year of studies in Information Technology

Also, all IT Honors Students are encouraged to engage in research activities with IT or other GCCIS professors during their studies.

Honors Project Seminar

This is a zero-credit seminar that meets for two hours on the first Friday of every month during the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Department honors students use this time and time outside of the seminar to work on projects, bring in guest speakers, or conduct other academically challenging work. With faculty guidance, the students set their own agenda for the seminar. The professor ensures that the work is of sufficient merit and helps the students with project management and resources. The projects must be production-oriented efforts and may include pro-bono work for local charities or academic departments.

Honors Capstone Project

This independent effort is typically conducted during the student’s final quarter. Under the guidance of an IT faculty member, students will develop a project or thesis as a culminating event to demonstrate the extent of their undergraduate studies. They will then present the results of their work to the IT community. This work carries 4 credits.
