Not in Honors?
Information for all Students

Admission After Freshman Year

Even if students are not accepted to the Honors Program as freshmen, they can still apply for the program at the end of freshman or sophomore year, and receive all of the benefits that any other honors student would. Information can be found on the honors admissions page.

Honors Courses

Honors courses typically are seminar style instead of lecture based, and are more interactive and hands-on than typical classes. Many honors classes are constructed around a theme, giving each class a particular focus.
Honors courses are open to students who are not members of the Honors Program. After honors students have had a chance to register, honors courses are open to any student who meets the minimum GPA requirement and obtains the instructor's permission to join the class. To register for an honors class, please complete the Request to Attend an Honors Course form and submit it to the Honors Program Office in Building 13.

Complementary Learning: Service and Leadership

All honors students are required to participate in complementary learning each year. This usually includes some sort of substantial leadership or service activity.

All RIT students are welcome to participate in honors student-led activities. Leadership and service activities are fun, rewarding, build community, and look great on your resume too! To find out what complementary learning activies are currently underway in the Honors Program, contact the complementary learning adviser, Josh Horn

Study Abroad

There are many opportunities for all RIT students to study abroad. RIT has affiliated programs in countries around the world including Australia, China, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, and many more!

For more information about studying abroad, please check out the Study Abroad website.
