Honors Requirements

Requirements for 4 Year Programs

To continue in the Honors Program, students in 4 year programs must meet the following criteria at the time of the annual Honors Review (after the winter quarter):
1. After the winter quarter of the first year:
  • 3.2 or higher gpa with the appropriate number of quality credits (RIT credits) fulfilled
  • successful completion of designated college honors program requirements
  • successful participation in Complementary Learning activities during the first year
  • positive recommendation from college Honors Advocate

2. After the winter quarter of the second year:
  • 3.4 or higher gpa with the appropriate number of quality credits (RIT credits) fulfilled
  • successful progress toward completion of 16 or more credits in honors general education courses
  • successful completion of designated college honors program requirements
  • successful participation in Complementary Learning activities during the second year
  • positive recommendation from college Honors Advocate

3. After the winter quarter of the third year:
  • 3.5 or higher gpa with the appropriate number of quality credits (RIT credits) fulfilled
  • successful progress toward completion of 16 or more credits in honors general education courses
  • successful completion of designated college honors program requirements
  • successful participation in Complementary Learning activities during the third year
  • positive recommendation from college Honors Advocate

Requirements for 5 Year Programs

To continue in the Honors Program, students in 5 year programs must meet the following criteria at the time of the annual Honors Review (after the winter quarter):
1. After the winter quarter of the first year:
  • 3.2 or higher gpa with the appropriate number of quality credits (RIT credits) fulfilled
  • successful completion of designated college honors program requirements
  • successful participation in Complementary Learning activities during the first year
  • positive recommendation from college Honors Advocate

2. After the winter quarter of the second year:
  • 3.4 or higher gpa with the appropriate number of quality credits (RIT credits) fulfilled
  • successful progress toward completion of 16 or more credits in honors general education courses
  • successful completion of designated college honors program requirements
  • successful participation in Complementary Learning activities during the second year
  • positive recommendation from college Honors Advocate

3. After the winter quarter of the third year:
  • 3.5 or higher gpa with the appropriate number of quality credits (RIT credits) fulfilled
  • successful progress toward completion of 16 or more credits in honors general education courses
  • appropriate progress towards designated college honors program requirements
  • successful participation in Complementary Learning activities during the third year
  • positive recommendation from college Honors Advocate

4. After the winter quarter of the fourth year:
  • 3.6 or higher gpa with the appropriate number of quality credits
  • successful completion of designated honors general education requirements
  • successful completion of designated college honors program requirements
  • successful participation in Complementary Learning activities during the fourth year
  • positive recommendation from college Honors Advocate

Requirements for Graduation

To graduate as an RIT Honors student, the candidate must have met all degree requirements in addition to these required below:
  • 3.6 or higher gpa
  • successful completion of designated honors general education requirements
  • successful completion of designated college honors program requirements (including capstone project, if applicable)
  • successful participation in Complementary Learning activities
  • positive recommendation from college Honors Advocate
